Work to be done!

How hard can it be?

To organize and be effective .....
To calculate time....

The answer to it must be ..... very difficult!

First of all, have a great idea! ..... requires some inspiration and thoughts.
Then...Make a sketch and pattern! ....now it's starting to look like something.
BUT!
What color scale should I have ..... which fabrics? ... buy new?.. recycled? ....
use old ones ? ... print? .. paint? .... color?

 Headache!!!!

Time!
January...no hurry!
Februari...Start to think!...but no hurry!
March...oh,oh..must get something done!
Puuh!

Well...it's funny but it always seems to be alright in the end despite all the concerns.

So...I'm sure that at least two quilts will be finished to the exhibition late august.

Happy Quilting!

The first quilt of the year. Hurray!

A good start of the year and hopefully there will be more quilts done.

In the beautiful Swedish winter landscape, the quilt becomes a piece of jewelry.

It was several months ago since I started experimenting sewing organic shapes.
 A challenge and very fun!
The result is this quilt sewn in both new and recycled fabrics.

Some embroidery and print with textile color to enhance the expression and structure.
The quilt is tightly machine quilted.

Even this quilt has the small patches applied by hand, typical of some of my quilts.

The printed cross in orange lifts the design and makes it a little more exciting.

Now I'm going to continue in the spirit of creativity ... new quilts and designs!

Texas quilt!

Is it possible? It's eight months since my last post!!!
Well, that doesn't mean that there's no quilts been made.

It has!

The family is growing and Texas, my brothers grandchild was born in june.

A quilt to Texas!

Welcome Texas!

This is a quilt made of triangels in blue colors and with orange as contrasts.
The fabrics are selected from my big fabric collection and several of them are old shirts bought secondhand and some are from my parents' old shirts.

The applied patches are now a kind of signature on many of my quilts.

On the back of the quilt,Texas's name and birth are embroidered.
To get a lively back I've chosen several different fabrics.
The quilt is quilted on machine.

I hope there will be a post soon again!
In the meen time you can follow me at Instagram.

Antons quilt!

Grandchild number two in 2016 is Anton!

....and his quilt turned out like this!

As Aksels quilt, this is also stitched in mainly blue with accents in green and red.

It measures 32x35 inches.

Once again I decorate by sew small pieces of fabric to the quilt.
I think it gives the quilt that little extra touch.

The back is important!
To use different fabrics makes it more interesting.

Now..... Anton has a sister. Selma two years old.

I made a Waldorf doll to her for Christmas.
A  thought of it is that the doll should look like the child who gets the doll.
I think it did quite well.
One thing was to knit the same sweater and hat I knitted to Selma.

A New Year...new  challenges!
I really look forward to it!

Baby quilts

First of all..Happy New Year to all of you!

I wish that we will have a joyful year
and a more peaceful world for all of us.

The holidays are over and Christmas presents handed to my grandchildren.
Then I can show you the baby quilts that I sewed for my last
 two grandchildren, Aksel and Anton.

And a doll to Selma!

I start with Aksels quilt today. He was born in May 2016.

I chosed to sew a quilt with flying geese and the colors that I know that the parents like.
Blue, red and with a touch of violett.
All fabrics are carefully washed and the batting is of organic bamboo.
The quilt is mashine quilted.

The quilt measure 32x35 inches.

On the quilt back, I embroidered Aksels name and birth date.

Here you can see some details in close-up!

I like to decorate quilts with small pieces of fabrics.
I sew them on the quilt with embroidery yarns.
A kind of signature on some of my quilts.

Here's the back!
...and you can see the quilting.

A quilt to my lovely Aksel!

In my next post I show you Antons quilt and Selmas doll!

Happy quilting days!

My latest work

It has been an eventful fall and a lot of work, but now it's really time to show
 my latest piece of work
It's my third quilt on the theme women.
Since I've been surrounded by pregnant women in the past year, it was an inspiring and natural theme.
It's so beautiful and wonderful when a child is on the way.

A miracle!

The quilt is called

 We carry life

The quilt  measures 37x46 inches and is made of cotton fabric.

I think the pictures speak their own language.
More than words!

Have a peek!

......women, round bellies, seeds and light.

Women also take great responsibility for our globe.

There's a lot for all of us to engage ourselves in for our children, grandchildren
and their future here on earth.

...and here are some close pictures of details.

Happy quilting!

Sunderbyn, classes and exhibition

It's two weeks ago....time flies!
Rikstäckets annual meeting took place in Sunderbyn, Luleå.
I had the privilege to teach two classes. So fun!
An exhibition with my quilts and Katarina Evens works were shown in the gallery.
The exhibition lasted during Sunderbyn Craft week
Margareta Thelander also showed great quilts.

My students made some lovely chairs!

..and.....

The students sew the first chair based on the my sketch and then they sew
along their own sketches and ideas. You all showed a lot of creativity!

In the gallery!

It was a great room with a lot of light!
I showed eight quilts and Katarina Evens showed great clothes made of natural materials and with fine details and embroideries.
She also works with recycling of materials which we quilters should use more than we do.
That is how it was when the first quilts where made!
I'm in the beginnig of using more of old fabrics and clothes.

This is from the left,
Curvy ladies, We carry life and Catwalk hanging from the ceiling.

Katarinas lovely clothes!

..and look at this details!
So lovely!

Thanks Katarina for cooperation, you are a great artist!
I wish you good luck in your future work!

In my next post I'll show you more of my latest work.

Great fun!

It has been a great fall...with a lot of work and joy as well.
I have a lot to tell you!

Quilts has been made and classes held in Quiltköping and Sunderbyn!

First I tell you about the great event in Quiltköping.
Gunilla Plesner is a fantastic lady who organice this event in Lidköping called Quiltköping.

A Great event for us quilters...a lot of shopping, exhibitions and classes!

And I had the privilege to be invited as a teacher this year.

This event took place in september and I had two classes.
Sew a chair is a class practicing to sew from a simple sketch without templates and specified dimensions. A sort of free manner to form a block, in this case a chair.
The ladies in my class managed to sew all these chairs!

Great work!

My second class considered how to transfer an image to fabric. The students worked  concentrated to transfer their images to fabric using a kind of medium.
An exciting project that does not always succeed based on the image and paper quality.

But there were a lot of interesting results.

An exampel from the exibition is Ulva Ugerups amazing small textile pictures of  ladies.
Small lovely work with funny, determined, angry yet positive messages.

 I love them!!

Until next post..

Thanks to all my students, you were great!!!

Happy Quilting!
